We are really happy to be hosting again one of the most tasteful and innovative of young American musicians, Seattle-based Eli West in the fantastic intimate room of The Kingsdown Vaults in Kingstown, Bristol.
Eli will be supported by the amazing guitarist and songwriter Kit Hawes (Yola Carter/Seth Lakeman/Sheelanagig) in a special rare solo outing.
Eli West - Old and new, folk and jazz, vocal and instrumental, odd and accessible, subtle and virtuosic…. it takes great skill and care to make music that sounds this natural!
Well-known for his work with Cahalen Morrison, Tim O’Brien, Jayme Stoneand more, the singer and multi-instrumentalist oozes understated talent. We recently witnessed both Martin Simpson and Richard Hawley utterly floored by his skill. Truly a sublime musician!
Eli’s recent debut solo album, The Both, sees him taking the lead, on electric and acoustic guitars, banjo, and pedal steel, whilst remaining a thoughtful collaborator – here with some of his close friends and personal heroes, like jazz great Bill Frisell, new Americana discovery Dori Freeman, and Anna & Elizabeth.
The album focuses on the story of his two grandfathers; one a decorated WWII prisoner of war, the other a Brethren preacher and peace advocate. They couldn’t have differed more, but together they shared a family. In this spirit, the theme of the album is duality: the first half showcases carefully built arrangements of six American folk songs, the second revisits these as instrumental passages, revealing new sides to the other.

Kit Hawes is a virtuoso guitarist, composer, singer songwriter and mandolin enthusiast. He grew up on an unlikely alternative community, in a farmhouse on three acres of land in the heart of suburban Swindon.
Coming from a musical family, Kit was steeped in folk and roots music from the outset; learning from his parents and the many musicians who would pass through the farm.
At age 14, he dropped out of school to pursue a career as a professional musician and began teaching, busking and gigging, soon moving to Bristol. Over the last decade, Kit has played all over the world and has gained a reputation as one of the finest instrumentalists in the country.
Kit has worked with a wide range of artists including Seth Lakeman, Cara Dillon, Roni Size, Yola Carter and Sheelanagig.
"[Kit] plays with dazzling virtuosity" Ethen Johns
