In ancient Chinese philosophy, YIN YANG refers to a concept of dualism, describing how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be in balance, complementary, and interdependent in the natural world. The Maastricht-based band known as YĪN YĪN, however, embraces misbalance and its contemplative freedom in order to push the boundaries of its creative musicality.
At a ballet school in a remote village near the Alpaca Mountain, Yīn Yīn started out as an in-studio experimental project by Kees Berkers and Yves Lennertz, exploring the potentialities of South East Asian music from the 60s and 70s. Over recent years, the project has evolved into an energetic live experience, celebrating a mix of world music, disco, funk and electro, deeply infused with the individual musical background of its individual members.
"Where to place YĪN YĪN on the map? Maybe somewhere between Netherlands and South-East Asia on an imaginary tropical island."

Support: Hippo
Hippo thrives in the hinterland between jazz and electronica. Bursting with buoyant melodies and the adrenal energy of a band stretching their shows to the edge of possibility, the trio continues to make a colossal sound far beyond what their three-piece stature should permit.
Saxophones, synthesisers and drums go in, Hippo comes out.
“Hippo then cranked things up with flairs of electro-psych and dream-like chord sequences meshing, culminating in a great interstellar beast. It was a full-on frenzy, leaving its mark.”
