Lil Maxine EP release show at The Jam Jar
See event details

A gig held at The Jam Jar on Sunday 13th October. The event starts at 20:00.

Lil Maxine is the project of Austrian-born and Bristol-based vocalist, pianist and songwriter Lise Huber. Her vocal tone and creative voice have drawn comparisons to Joni Mitchell and yet are unmistakably her own. Whether solo or with her band, she brings forth an emotive world of jazz-infused songs, with hints of fusion, funk and soul. Her songs tell timeless stories of love, longing and hope.

“This is meticulously structured, superbly performed and improvisation-enriched modern jazz that captivates the ear. It doesn’t just beat familiar stereotypes, but is also suffused with a clever, narrative tranquillity.” jn, Kulturnews Platten

Since 2020 Lise has led a growing community of local and international artists built around the philosophy that music is something to be shared, and creativity is equally inherent to us all. This is reflected in her latest body of work, which Lil Maxine will be celebrating at this intimate show at The Jam Jar Bristol on 13th October.

Expect an evening of atmospheric, inspiring, sensitive and refined compositions, songs and sounds.

“The best singer/songwriter I've seen perform in the last ten years, Lil Maxine's voice resonates clearly and passionately, her voice and piano playing weave as one voice connecting effortlessly with the musicians in her band, her music is uplifting yet melancholic, a true pioneer in her time.” Guy Calhoun

A bit more about Lise:
Finding herself captivated by jazz at a young age, Lise started performing and writing her own songs, leading to diverse collaborations with artists in Vienna’s independent scene. Lise has performed at top live venues including Porgy & Bess Vienna, Radiokulturhaus Wien, and many more, and over the years has worked with numerous musicians, artists and producers. Her debut album Lil Maxine: ‘A Little Girl’s Lovesongs’ (2016) established her as an up-and-coming jazz vocalist, receiving radio play on national shows in Austria and Germany. A solo performance at Youth’s Space Mountain Festival paved the way for her to perform at London’s jazz club The Hideaway with bassist Calum Gourlay and drummer Dave Hamblett in 2018, and eventually brought her to Bristol.

Supported by Urban I-Land Collective
"A genre defying outfit, with a subby you can feel, reminiscent of a Docklands inspired and truly Bristol soundscape. Burly bass driven rhythms grapple with the sometimes manic, always melodious guitar for your full attention as you bounce your head to the dynamic drum patterns. Kinetic keys and vibrant vocals complete the already full picture. They won’t be contained and when you partake neither will you." UIC

Entry requirements: no age restrictions (under 18s to be accompanied by an adult over 21yrs, 1:1 ratio)
