Kilengi Dance Party is BACK!
After raising over £1,100 in October for the charity, Friends of Congo, we're back for another instalment of Bristol's new favourite global bass party.
Curated by DJ, bassist and producer Marla Kether, Kilengi is a celebration of dance music from the afrodiaspora - expect fresh selections from the Caribbean, South America, the UK, Lisbon and beyond.
FOR LOVERS OF: Dancehall - Garage - 140 - Afro House - Baile Funk - Dembow - Afrobeats - Kuduro - Global Bass
‘Kilengi’ means ‘Joy’ in Koutouba, one of the languages native to Congo; it’s a Dance Party guarantee that a night shaking ass with us will leave you feeling euphoric, revitalised and a lil bit sweaty. All we ask for in exchange is that you be respectful of other party goers - we want this to be a safe space for everyone!
Now without further ado, meet the DJs:
- MARLA KETHER (@marla_kether) -
Born in London to Congolese parents, Marla Kether is a bassist, producer and DJ. Since taking up DJing during Lockdown in 2020, Marla has rapidly honed her craft. She’s been busy taking her high-energy sets around the world, securing bookings at Glastonbury, Latitude Festival, Little Simz’s Tate Modern Lates and supporting Loyle Carner on his US tour in addition to playing in the band. 2025 will see Marla DJing at high-profile festivals, including Outlook, and others to be announce. She has also contributed outstanding mixes for the likes of BBC Radio 6 Music, Crack Magazine, NTS and Selector Radio.
The different strands of Marla's musical career are almost as diverse as her excellent selections, which commonly feature a bass-led blend of Kuduro, Dembow and Afro House, as well as a fresh selection of Global Bass.
- JOSEPHINE GYASI (@josephine.gyasi) -
Josephine Gyasi's sets are a testament to her rhythmic skill and deep appreciation for music and nightlife culture, drawing inspiration from her immersive experiences and years in clubs both on-stage and off-stage as a raver, former Club Djembe troop, and now DJ.
Known for their infectious energy her performances reflect her love for the soft melodies of Amapiano, soulful rhythms of Afro-House, and percussive-driven Funky. Yet, it's her fearless exploration of Global Club Music fused with high-energy styles like Gqom and Ghettotech that truly sets her apart as she brings something unique each and every time.
- CHIEDZA (@chiedzadj) -
Chiedza is a boundary-pushing DJ known for blending the deepest rhythms of the African diaspora with cutting-edge club sounds. A versatile selector, she moves seamlessly between amapiano, afro house, GQOM, 3-step, UK funky, and beyond—always delivering high-energy, bass-heavy sets that keep dance floors locked in.
Beyond the decks, Chiedza is the host of PianoHeat, a monthly radio show on Noods Radio that showcases the hottest new amapiano tracks straight from South Africa. She is also a curator of musical experiences, recently hosting a successful event at The Love Inn that championed sounds from the South African diaspora.
