Relationships like the one Nikki and JD have don’t come along very often. They’ve had other partners before but there is something about JD’s strong arms and Nikki’s femininity that makes this bond special. Or so it seems…
First performed at Resolution at The Place in 2016, Knot is a dance and circus performance like nothing you have seen before. Death-defying acrobatics combine with moments of humour and poignancy to create a show that is by turns daring and endearing.
**** “a thrilling and entertaining show; perhaps pioneering a new genre of comedy acrobatics”

“This is great work, sophisticated, sexy and yearning” Lyn Gardner, The Guardian
Gymnast Nikki Rummer and contemporary circus performer Jean-Daniel Broussé both trained at National Centre for Circus Arts. For Knot, they have collaborated with Lost Dog’s Ben Duke to create an intensely personal show that breaks down the fourth wall, giving the audience a real insight into the performers’ feelings about each other.
“Knot was up there amongst the best pieces of theatre I have ever seen. My wife and I were both deeply moved by the show - the balances and catches were, of course, unbelievable but the flow and liquidity of your dancing was utterly beautiful. And to thread it through with the storyline - perfect. You totally deserved the standing ovation.” Audience Member, Spring 2018 tour
Knot uses circus, dance and storytelling to examine love and conflict between two people seemingly in a relationship. However, there is a twist in the tale, as the audience discover that the two acrobatic performers are actually a single 30-something woman and a gay man. This is a finely crafted theatrical journey through the struggles of commitment and asks the question:: How can we be honest with ourselves without hurting those we love?
Made in collaboration with the award-winning choreographer Ben Duke of Lost Dog Dance Company, Knot was a winner of the Total Theatre & Jacksons Lane Award for Circus 2019 and Herald Angel Award 2019, and runner up for the prestigious Carol Tambor Best of Fringe Award.
They are now touring the south-west this autumn as part of Circus Around And About 2.
