Alpaca Presents | gürl + Trunc at Exchange
See event details

A gig held at Exchange on Tuesday 28th November. The event starts at 19:00.

gürl are antipop: Froot Loops and butcher knives, bubblegum and razor blades, and fashion posing as music, all wrapped in diva choruses with heavy guitars, rock drums and trap production.

Following a series of singles including the smasher 'ANTIPOP', subsequent rebel anthem ‘Gucci, Honey, Dirty Money’, and radio anthem ‘Crying In Nightclub Bathrooms', the band’s outrageous debut EP, *OUIJA*, was released in November 2022 and quickly led to the band’s signing with [Circular Wave Records](https://circularwave.eu/) and [Marshall Live Agency](https://marshall.com/recording-artists/marshall-live-agency/artists) — as well as over 800,000 streams and airplay on BBC1 & Kerrang! Radio.

Deep, dark, and seductive verses tempt you into huge anthemic choruses, backed by thicc alt rock guitars and trap production. Mixed by Rhys May and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Stockholm’s Fascination Street Studios, OUIJA is the next step in gürl's conquest of the bleeding edge of alternative music.

“Northerner and Manchester based artist Martha Phillips, better known as TRUNC, continues to establish herself as one of the most distinctive voices in the queer punk scene cultivating a growing community in Manchester, and throughout the UK.

Her rhythmic lyrical melodies speak for a generation that’s over-stimulated but thriving on authenticity, it’s punk-edged hip-hop whilst other songs show vulnerability, shifting through electronic soundscapes looking for a safe place to be a queer neurodivergent woman in the music industry, in relationships and online.

TRUNC as a project is as genre fluid as they come. 2023 saw Martha take full creative control over her musical outlet, writing and self producing from a shipping container studio conversion. Here lies the secret to getting her latest single ‘Bored’ premiered on Radio 1 with support from Nels Hylton and Alyx Holcombe. Having already toured with Calva Louise and Belako this year, and a new four track EP scheduled for release in November 2023, TRUNC is showing no signs of slowing downthis momentum of smashing out bangers that are also distinctive, thought provoking pieces of music.

Exchange is a 14+ venue. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
