A event held at The Elmgrove Centre on Saturday 17th August. The event starts at 14:30.

LEARN TO DANCE IN A DAY!

Have you always wanted to be able to grab a partner and have an amazing dance? Let us show you how! Blue Mondays presents a beginner level blues dancing workshop, followed by an evening social dance.

This event is for you if...

- you've never danced blues before (or danced at all!) and you're curious to see what it's all about
- you've tried blues once or twice and you want to get a solid foundation in the basics of blues dance
- you're an experienced blues dancer and you want to revisit your basics

In this workshop, everybody will learn both roles of the dance: leading and following.

Between 2.30pm and 6pm, we'll dive into the basics of blues dancing in three workshops, with short breaks in-between. Following a break for dinner, we’ll be dancing the night away to the tunes of Kosta Burgess - come join us to practice your new moves and connect with Bristol’s blues dancing community!

Full details for the evening social can be found here: https://hdfst.uk/e111651

DETAILS

We'll be in the small hall at the Elmgrove Centre, Elmgrove Rd, Redland, Bristol, BS6 6AH.

The entrance to the small hall is on Redland Road, to the left of the entrance to the Bannatyne Health Club.

Doors will open at 2.15pm, and the workshops will start at 2.30pm. Please arrive a few minutes early to get settled in and say hello.

We'll take short breaks between workshops for drinks/snacks/resting those dancing feet. Please bring your own refreshments.

We recommend flat and comfortable footwear, avoiding very grippy soles (e.g. rubber trainers). Plimsolls, trainers without much traction, dress shoes, suede-soled dance shoes or socks are all good options!

ACCESSIBILITY

The hall has a wheelchair accessible entrance, and bathrooms that are level but not fully adapted for wheelchair accessibility.

To get to the wheelchair accessible entrance, please go up the path to the left of the small hall front entrance, and the accessible door will be on your right.

We encourage everyone to engage with the workshops in the way that works for them - taking breaks, resting, and participating by listening/watching rather than moving, are all very welcome!

If you have other access needs that you’d like to chat to us about, please message us via our Facebook page, or send us an email at [email protected].

PAY WHAT YOU CAN

We want everyone to be able to come and dance with us, regardless of finances. That's why we run on a full sliding scale. Feeling flush? Chip in a little extra. Skint? Cool, come dance with us anyway - we have low income and pay-what-you-can options available, with no minimum.

Tickets on this page include the afternoon workshops - if you want to join us for the evening party only, please buy your ticket here: https://hdfst.uk/e111651

We recommend booking your ticket in advance, rather than dropping in on the day, in case the workshop sells out.

BLUE MONDAYS

We're a community of dancers in Bristol who meet every Monday for a blues dance class followed by a couple of hours of social dancing. Blues is a great way to get into partner dancing - with a gentle learning curve and de-gendered teaching, we make sure there is space for everyone. With a focus on connection and improvisation over very complex sequences of steps, we guarantee that by the end of your first session you'll be grooving to some great tunes on the social floor!

You can see what we're up to on Facebook... https://www.facebook.com/bluemondaybristol

... and Instagram!

Never come across blues dancing before? Here's a great intro video by our friends in Paris!
