Romeo & Juliet in Eastville Park Swimming Pool at Eastville Park Swimming Pool

A event on Sunday 24th June. The event starts at 18:00.

After an award winning year, ‘Site Specific Theatre Masters’ (Bristol 24/7) Insane Root return with an ambitious and vibrant open-air adaptation of Shakespeare‘s enduring tale of love-at-first-sight. We invite you to enter a new vision of Verona - hidden in plain sight - full of ferocious brawls, raucous parties and secret trysts.

Originally built as a Victorian lido, the Eastville Park Swimming Pool was damaged by shrapnel in World War 2 and subsequently turned into a community garden. The layers of history and tension between the natural and human worlds provide the perfect landscape for this famous play. Romeo & Juliet will be the first theatre production to be adapted and staged directly in response to this haunting space.

The show will feature a company of ten performers playing multiple roles, weaving in and amongst the audience, and with a stripped back running time of approx. 100 minutes. The show is created by the same team behind Macbeth at the Redcliffe Caves and The Tempest in St John on the Wall's Crypt. It will showcase the company's hallmark live singing, with thrilling fight sequences, dynamic staging and dance.

But as old rivalries turn to bloody murder, be careful not to get caught in the cross-fire...

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Running time: Approx 100 mins in the performance space. Please arrive at least 15 mins before your performance time to check in at Box Office and transfer to the site. No latecomers will be admitted.

Age restrictions: Unsuitable for children under the age of 10; babes-in-arms not permitted.

Venue location: Eastville Park Swimming Pool, Fishponds, BS5 6QL

Access: Please be advised that this performance is immersive with elements of promenade and will include walking and standing around the venue. Some seating is available but please be prepared to stand throughout, or contact the company for assistance.

Wet Weather Policy: The British Summertime can be fickle when it comes to weather so we advise you to keep an eye on the forecast and dress appropriately. We will not cancel a performance due to weather unless we deem it unsafe for either audiences or performers to continue and we will never cancel a show before the advertised start time - this is because you’d be amazed how often it can rain all day and then clear up in time for a show. For more information and our full policy, please refer to our website - www.insaneroot.co.uk

Umbrellas: Please refrain from using umbrellas during the performance.

Clothing & footwear: The pool area has some uneven surfaces and sections of the audience will be taken down some steps into the pool itself. We recommend comfortable, flat shoes and layered clothing as it can get very cold once the sun goes down!

Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. In exceptional circumstances we may be able to transfer your tickets to another performance, but reserve the right to charge a small admin fee - or the difference in ticket price if relevant - for doing so. Tickets can only be guaranteed for your initial booking and only after we have received payment.

Further restrictions may apply - please check at time of booking.
