A
event
on Saturday 5th October. The event starts at 13:00.
Learn how to make your own inks and pigments from flowers, plants, food waste & weeds in this one day workshop with artist Ione Maria Rojas. She'll take you through a series of simple colour making techniques, with a focus on ingredients you can find on your street and in your kitchen. You’ll then be guided through some playful ways of working with ink and natural colour, using mark making and automatic drawing to develop your own visual vocabulary.
By the end of the day, you’ll have your own handmade ink to take home with you, as well as any drawings you've made, a recipe card, ideas and references for further art making.
All materials are included, though you are welcome to bring any of your own.
Bio
Ione is a queer artist, facilitator and organic food grower. She is curious about what colours and materials we can make from our immediate environment, and what stories are revealed to us through this process. She loves using mark making, automatic drawing and writing as tools for dialogue with our quieter, inner selves and the more-than-human.
Fair Pay & Affordability
We want to make sure we pay queer artists we collaborate with fairly, whilst keeping prices affordable for our community with a sliding scale. Ione normally charges £50pp for this workshop but has very kindly offered it at a discounted rate for Nature Queerdos. Tickets are £25, if you buy a £35 ticket you are subsidising the £15 tier for unwaged/low wage participants and facilitating our sliding scale. If price is a barrier please consider contacting us to discuss what you can/can’t afford at [email protected]
Access Information
We have designed this event to be accessible to people who use wheelchairs or have other mobility difficulties. If you would benefit from a carer/personal assistant they can attend for free but please email us to discuss your needs further.
The first hour of the workshop will involve some foraging in the park. The park has paved paths the whole way, though these can be sloped and uneven in parts.
Many of the plants can be seen/reached from the paths, but there may be some that require short deviations off the path to reach, and some people may require assistance with picking plants in a careful way from low to the ground or from safer spots away from path edges. We have grabbing tools if you can’t reach.
We will then relocate to the Eastville park community hub where there is an accessible toilet, as well as in the car park.
