A event held at Cloak on Thursday 29th August. The event starts at 20:00.

For this month's Gay24 screening, we invite you to experience close encounters - of the lesbian kind.

Our ridiculous feature for the month is Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same (2011), a pitch-perfect scifi comedy that balances heartfelt heterophobia with an equally heartfelt skewering of the archetypes of lesbian infatuation. Featuring a cohort of sapphic aliens whose planetside mission objective is to get their hearts broken, toxic polyamorists, and an intergalactic U-Haul, low budget scifi silliness at its absolute best.

The film is based on a Olnek's play of the same name, which showed at feminist anarchist theatre WOW Cafe in 1992 during something of a golden age for kooky lesbian theatrics; WOW has also presented works by The Five Lesbian Brothers, who you may know from troupe member Dominique Dibbell's starring role in Lady (1993), which we screened in May.

Only a year later, our short for this evening was released. Developed by Naiad Press, one of the world's first lesbian feminist publishers, and released as part of a VHS series that also included Cat Nip (from our March program), I Became A Lesbian And So Can You is an evangelical parody extolling the virtues of lesbianism.

This profoundly silly program makes plain that The Lesbian Experience is - literally - universal. Laugh at the straights, laugh at yourselves
