What would our queer scene look like with more space for curiousity?
Welcome to QUEERIES! Our new talk series residency at Cider Box.
Our first talk of this series will be presented by Sonia Wargacka, Producer of Rave on for the Avon.
AMPLIFYING ANY VOICE, ANYWHERE: HOW STORYTELLING CAN EMPOWER US ALL
Sonia Wargacka (she/her) is a storytelling powerhouse — part Film&TV production pro, part activist, and 100% dedicated to making an impact.
Based in Bristol for the past decade, Sonia has worked on some of the biggest TV hits, including Sex Education (Netflix), Industry (BBC/HBO), His Dark Materials (BBC/HBO), and Wolf Hall (BBC). But her passion goes beyond prestige productions—she’s all about stories that spark change.
She produced the award-winning Bristol feature documentary Rave On for the Avon, earning a four-star review from The Guardian, which declared that activism "never looked so fun and friendly as it does in this joyous documentary about Bristol’s clean water campaigners".
This discussion will explore how media can be a tool for empowerment, self-discovery, and social change. Giving voice to underrepresented communities and shape cultural narratives, the power of personal storytelling and challenging societal norms.
Guests are welcome to join a social in Cider Box with the hosts and other audience members after conclusions until 11pm!
Hosted by House of Boussé's resident bromancers, Gender Criminal & Xanthe
Gender Criminal is the high politicamp Founder and Director of House of Boussé. A ruthless optimist, his drag dances with connection, dynamic musical soundscapes, raw emotional explorations and dreaming of new worlds. Bristol's sleepiest hypeman host will be live podcasting with his co - conspirator and stage partner in crime, facilitating and learning alongside you.
There's Xanarchy in the UK, and there's only one man for the job. Xanthe is part healer, part disruptor. Part bewitching, part beguiling. Part Twink and part goblin. He's an enigma. Wrapped in a riddle. And lots of fishnets. Where there's a will, there's a way - and there's not many ways they don't have the will for. This time, his exploits have taken him into a dream he never knew he had, co-hosting a talk series with his best friend.
Queeries is a dazzling talk and Q&A series brought to you by Gender Criminal & Xanthe, a platform for queer academics, activists, creatives and community to share their practise with Bristol. Our guests will present a new topic each month spanning from robotics, climate, polyamory, music, and more!
This is a trans - led space, hosting amazing speakers from diverse communities. We welcome all guests to be curious, but please be respectful. We want to understand each other in this space, any form of bigotry towards our speakers or other guests will not be tolerated.
