A
event
on Saturday 3rd May. The event starts at 14:30.
A non-selling exhibition of paintings, plus live dance performance, by Louie Howie. No cost to attend.
Children with supervising adults welcome.
I'll provide some art materials, and teas.
“Painting and dance are different formats, but I have a similar approach - to set off, and see what happens. There's an urge, a something inside that I need to invite out. Timing is important - speed of making and speed of doing have to match speed of noticing and speed of creation. If nothing's happening, I need to wait.
In the paintings, a desire to mess it up and disrupt a neat ending is something I always try to follow. I value the mess and the chaos. I value the balance and the correspondences.
With dance, I can't see the previous events, but they're in my body. I'm noticing my whole structure. I'm staying interested, and playing with disruption - welcoming a wobble or over-step for the pleasure of flying, of falling but not crashing. I know what the dance is for me. It's expression and digestion, it's changes of state. It's being seen.
What the paintings are, I don't know. Some of them look like something. I can see images that get onto the paper via the not-planning. But most of them only have an echo of "looks like". I spend time with the paintings afterwards, taking them in, acknowledging that I was there when they happened, and wondering what they are.”
