Sound Swatches Workshop with Molly Fairhurst
Sunday 13th April 2pm - 3:15pm
Centrespace Gallery, Bristol
What shape is a sound? What colour is your voice? What is the written and drawn language of a bird, a creaky chair, a car flying past?
Join artist and illustrator Molly Fairhurst for a workshop of translating sounds into small visual artworks, resulting in a swatch book to take home. Studying the science of a spectrogram as a starting point and listening to shorter sounds and longer field recordings, we will consider how we personally would transcribe sounds through visual media, comparing and contrasting our results with one another. There is no requirement to have artistic experience to take part in this workshop — it is about intuition, quick thinking and playfulness.
Participants are encouraged to send in sounds to [email protected] ahead of the workshop. Please limit these to 10 seconds long max, and make sure they are appropriate for a public setting. Materials will be provided but please bring any media you would like to use too.
The workshop will last for 75 minutes at Centrespace Gallery. Wheelchair access can be provided, please get in touch at the email address below for any access requirements.
If you have any queries about the workshop, get in touch with Molly Fairhurst at [email protected]
