Bristol Folk CLub is proud to present our third session at Cafe Kino, featuring some of the most exciting sounds coming out of the Welsh folk scene. With performances from Craven and Peiriant.

CRAVEN:

Cardiff/Stroud based Folk band Craven perform traditional ballads with crafted arrangements. Their genre bending soundworld takes influence from punk, electronic dance and classical chamber music.
Approaching the heavy themes of traditional folk - life, death, war and poverty - with irony and wry wit, and finding queer and contemporary ideas in old songs, and bringing out new meanings for new contexts.
Their debut release, "Baby Vs Crow'' exemplifies this tongue in cheek attitude. A mixtape consisting of 6 traditional folk songs, it showcases their breadth of sound from the bright, punk-lead "Arthur McBride", to the darker "Crow on the Cradle'' with synth-like arpeggiation.

Craven is composed of Will Bremner (Melodeon/Concertina), Elian Moisey (Double Bass/Viola da Gamba), and Rhiannon Takel (Fiddle/Mandola).

PEIRIANT:

Peiriant are a duo of violin and electric guitar, who play with melody and tonality to create atmosphere and soundscape. Electronic equipment, samples and found objects also add to their semi-improvised pieces, which are spun from grounded ideas.
Rose and Dan Linn-Pearl draw from their foundation in folk and classical in addition to post-rock, minimalism and sound art to weave experimental music that is anchored in the Welsh landscape. They play with layers of drone and dissonance, contrasting with songs and pure tones to give a rich and sonorous auditory experience.
