event
on Saturday 30th November. The event starts at 18:00.
Local comedians Emma Coyne (winner of the Comedy Chest New Act Competition) and Stephen Bisland (as seen on HBO's Chernobyl) lead a one-day workshop teaching stand-up comedy as an art form, helping students find their comedic voice.
The psychological benefits of performing stand-up comedy are becoming increasingly well-known.
From a recent survey we ran of stand-up comedians, we found: 90% of respondents said that performing stand-up had improved their confidence. Additionally, over half of respondents felt significant improvements in their public speaking skills and found stand-up to be therapeutic.
If you're between 18 and 25 years old, come along! The day is completely free, food will be provided, and travel bursaries are available to make the day more accessible (just ask if you'd benefit from this)—we don't want financial barriers to prevent you from attending. What's more, free tickets to a The People's Comedy night will be given to attendees at the end of the day.
By the end of this workshop, you will find your honest, comedic storytelling voice (or at least come much closer to doing so), learn how to channel difficult times into your storytelling as a form of catharsis and mindfulness, and uncover both the subjective and objective nature of comedy.
Places are limited so please book to ensure your spot. Peace
