See event details

A event held at Bristol Old Vic on Saturday 27th April. The event starts at 11:30.

GATHER UP, an artist-led programme for dancers, invites celebrated artist Annie Pui Ling Lok to share their dance and choreographic practice and their current research in a spirit of reciprocal enquiry.

This workshop is open to the curiosity of artists and practitioners aged 18yrs+ who work with contemporary dance, movement improvisation, choreography or other movement practices.
----------------------------------------

This workshop will provide a series of open frames and invitations to improvise and observe:
- how I move
- what/who affects my dance
- what/who is my dance effecting

Guided work in tuning proprioception and observing physical sensations will lead us into noticing choice, agency, and desire as we play, explore and improvise alone and with others.

Annie will draw on key areas of her work – performance, choreography, contact improvisation, and biodynamic craniosacral therapy.

Exercises exploring the giving and receiving of touch and weight will be used.

About Annie Pui Ling Lok:
Annie has been a freelance dance artist since 1999, and graduated as a biodynamic craniosacral therapist (BCST) in 2014. She makes live performances in processes that are experimental and collaborative. Teaching and facilitation remain a key part of her practice and she has taught in numerous community, professional and Higher Education settings. In 2021 Annie became one of the first leaders of colour to direct a dance organisation as Co-Artistic Director and Joint CEO of Siobhan Davies Studios (SDS) alongside independent producer Kat Bridge. Outside of working at SDS Annie continues to freelance and take care of her (nearly) 5-year old daughter.
