Saxophone colossus Paul Dunmall and the brilliant Trumpeter Percy Pursglove reunite in a new quartet including the exceptional bassist Olie Brice (who was here in May with Dee Byne's Outlines) and one of Europe's most respected drummers and regular Dunmall collaborator, Mark Sanders.
With Percy Pursglove based in Germany these days it's rare for him to play in UK let alone Bristol but up to 2020 Percy was a regular star performer at Fringe Jazz featuring in Andy Sheppard's Hotel Bristol, Iain Ballamy Quartet, several Paul Dunmall bands, PERDATO (with Tony Orrell and Dan Moore) and as a special guest augmenting the Pushy Doctors to a quartet. Pursglove is now rated as one of the top trumpeters in Europe and is a member of the prestigious NDR Big Band in Hamburg. So when Paul Dunmall mentioned that Percy was coming over from Germany for a short tour playing London and Birmingham, we had to move our schedule around to make sure a visit to The Bristol Music Club could be included. Paul and Percy last played Fringe Jazz (coincidently with Olie Brice on Bass) on the 5th Feb 2020, that was a superlative gig and with the addition of Mark Sanders, tonight promises to be a very special evening of music. Don't miss it.

PAUL DUNMALL - recognised as one of the most talented reed players on the International jazz/improvised music scene. Whether playing in small groups or big bands, his musical sensitivity and imagination combined with a powerful sound drenched in both Jazz and Folk traditions make him one of the most distinctive improvisers playing today.
He has performed with Alice Coltrane, Rashied Ali, Hamid Drake, Andrew Cyrille, Henry Grimes, Elton Dean, Evan Parker, Alan Skidmore, Keith Tippett, Mujician, Johnny Guitar Watson, Danny Thompson, LJCO, Chris Corsano, Paul Rogers, Andy Sheppard, Spirit Level and many more...

"A robust and heavy hitting performer who has gone on to concentrate largely on free improvisation without sacrificing a rigorous melodic logic, a sparing lyricism and the technique to drop in on bebop occasionally." - John Fordham, The Guardian

PERCY PURSGLOVE is a multi-instrumentalist trumpeter, double bassist, educator, improviser and composer, working internationally across a broad spectrum of jazz, contemporary classical and creative musical settings.

"Somehow Pursglove created a completely whole musical world all of his own. That is a rare achievement." - Jazzwise

Percy is currently working extensively across Europe as a freelance improviser, recording artist, composer, clinician and member of the NDR Big Band, Hamburg.
