A
event
held at Bookhaus
on Friday 7th March. The event starts at 19:00.
Join us for our first Bring Down the Haus poetry night of the year.
We'll be celebrating the brilliant new writing of Wendy Allen, Luke Palmer and Mark Wynne.
The event will be hosted by friend of the shop Carrie Etter.
Wendy Allen’s debut pamphlet, Plastic Tubed Little Bird, was published by Broken Sleep in 2023. Her latest pamphlet, Portrait in Mustard, was published by Seren in October 2024. She is a PhD researcher at MMU. Her work can be found in bath magg, The Rialto, Poety Ireland Review, The Moth, Poetry Wales and Propel.
The title sequence of Luke Palmer’s first collection, Homunculus, imagines 16th century alchemist Paracelsus as a single father. Told from the perspective of his immaculately conceived son, the work is described as ‘fiercely original’ and ‘meticulously woven yet explosive, uncontrollable’. He won the 2022 Winchester Poetry Prize (for Desire | Fathers) and has taught on poetry and fatherhood for the Poetry School. Luke is also the critically acclaimed author of two novels for young people and has been twice nominated for the YOTO Carnegie medal.
Mark Wynne has been published in many magazines, including Ambit, Lighthouse Journal and The Moth. He has two pamphlets with tall-lighthouse: Frank & Stella, an acclaimed fictional interpretation of the life and work of Frank Auerbach, and Point Bolivar Light, a narrative sequence juxtaposing private and ecological catastrophe. His visual poetry has been published by Paper View and steel incisors.
