Step into the haunting history of Bedminster's Union Workhouse with an immersive play brought to life by two acta groups.

This unique production invites you to explore the grim realities of workhouse life while witnessing a retelling of the investigation into an inmate's tragic death—a tale rooted in true events.

As the audience moves between locations, they will uncover the stories of hardship, resilience, and humanity that defined the workhouse, culminating in a gripping re-enactment of the investigation that shocked Bristol and shone a light on life in Workhouses up and down the country.

Don’t miss this powerful factual drama, illuminating this dark period in British history, and celebrating how even seemingly powerless people can change the world.

With thanks to the Bristol Radical History Group for their support, and Rosemary Caldicott for her excellent publication, “The Life and Death of Hannah Wiltshire”

Please be advised this performance is entirely seated but each part takes place in a different room within the building, so you will need to move between them. The acta Centre has level access throughout.
